Interspire SEO Module Upgrade 1.1

by Dave Beck on November 11, 2009

SEO Indexing

I’m pleased to announce that the Interspire shopping cart SEO Indexing module has been updated to version 1.1. This update adds a couple of new features to take into account a number of indexing problems that I forgot to add to the original release.

This update now allows you to apply the “noindex, follow” meta tag to the Product Tags Section of your site and more importantly you can also now apply it to your Secure Area (HTTPS). I highly recommend enabling both of these as they can potentially cause massive amounts of duplicate content.

Installing the Module

  • Download the current zip file from the Interspire SEO Indexing Module page (free download)
  • Unzip the file and upload it to your web server (if you are upgrading simply overwrite your existing file)
  • Log into your administration area of your shopping cart and go to settings/analytics and either install or upgrade the module.

For those of you who are upgrading you will see two new areas that you will need to initiate (see image below)

If you have any questions, locate any bugs or have any new features that you would like to see included please leave a comment below (or over on the main module page).

Lastly, make sure that you sign on to our newsletter to be notified of updates and any new Interspire modules that we put together.

hi Charlie,

I have tested it with 5.0.6 but it should also work with any version 4 or 5 installation. The only thing that I haven't been able to test at this stage is the shared SSL environment. If anybody is using shared SSL I would be interested to hear how it works.

That's great news Vox.

I still think that it is ridiculous that we need to go to these lengths, but I guess it is some type of competitive advantage of those in the know.

Great plugin! and thanks for sharing Dave. I have a quick question. Do I still need to add any redirects to the htaccess file? If so what do I need to put in the htaccess file? I have never worked with htaccess so any help would be appreciated.

hi Jason,

I'm glad you like the plug-in, it seems to be getting a few people out of a bind.

Fortunately this plug-in doesn't require any modification of your robots.txt or .htaccess. You can control everything directly from your shopping cart administration area. By default all the options are turned off and generally speaking you will want to turn them all on.

Hopefully this has cleared things up for you, if not feel free to ask more questions.

Regards Dave

Hi Dave,

I have been in ecommerce for 15 years and seriously looking at Interspire shopping cart as our new software. I love what I see but see so much about bad support, bugs and things not working. Of coarse you always here the bad on the internet more than the good. What is your opinion?

hi Keith,

That really is a great question and is probably worthy of a dedicated, well thought out blog post. I feel that I am in a pretty unique position with Interspire in that I have been using their shopping cart since it's beta release and have been a partner right up until selling my Web development business six months ago. As it stands I have no direct relationship with Interspire and can offer a wholehearted unbiased opinion on where Interspire currently stand.

IMO slow support and setting unrealistic expectations through their marketing communication has been the biggest issue that I have had. In saying that, they have made some massive inroads recently on support issues and hopefully 2010 will see a lot more happier customers.

I might actually set up a quick survey of current customers to include in my report. if you have any questions that you would like to put to current Interspire customers let me know.

I am back at work next week and will make this report my first major task of the new year.
